a painful aftertaste

Filed under: Doodles, Blabs and Rants — didee @ 6:58 pm

*warning: a bit gross*

A few weeks back I realized that my digestive system is not as adventurous as I thought it would be. Singapore is a sweet niche for all sorts of dishes. The food is as varied as the different cultures that resides in this little red dot in Asia.

During lunch breaks I usually eat together with my Filipino officemates, and the nearest food court in our office caters all sorts of Asian and Western dishes. One of my friend, always orders this handmade noddle soup which really looks good, especially when it’s still simmering hot and with the weather dropping , it would just make you want to have some.

So one rainy afternoon, I went into that noodle stall and chose from the variety of handmade noodle soups they offer. I ordered a seafood combi, whose various ingredients I couldn’t tell one from the other. I thought it’s the best way to counter the rainy weather. Cold rain on the outside calls for some hot soup to warm you up, right? Right! Or so I thought.

About two hours after, I started feeling a little skirmish going on inside my stomach. I did the deed, but the feeling went from discomfort to pain and later on to hell. I though of just burping it out thinking it was just gas, but that didn’t help either. When I look at myself in the mirror, I was starting to get a little pale. And sure enough before I even went back to my desk, I couldn’t stop vomiting. I felt like I’ve been inside the comfort room for days. And you know that feeling where you’re vomiting but there’s nothing more inside? It’s really painful!

It feels like my stomach was turned inside out. It feels like I’ve puked everything I ate and drank since time immemorial. I know my body was doing a rushed and forced detox, and the only thing I thought which I put in my mouth out of the usual is that blasted seafood soup!

My boss told me to go to the infirmary, and my groupmate went with me cause I was slowly turning ghastly white. There was this new clinic in our area, and it’s the nearest from our office so that’s where I went. While the nurse asked me to fill up the patient’s information form, i felt another “thingy” coming up, and I guess my friend noticed and she took the pen from my hand and I dash out towards the nearest toilet! waaaaah!! Kapoy sige suka!! Dili man ko mabdos! LOL

When the doctor saw me, did the usual eyes/tongue/bp/temperature check up, he asked if I’m allergic to anything, I would have answered “Yes, I’m allergic to egoistic and insensitive airheads”, but I told him that I’m not allergic to any food and about the seafood soup as the only unroutine dish I’ve put inside my mouth for the last 48 hours. I did my story telling while I was clutching my stomach and almost begged him for some pain reliever.

I told my friend who went with me to the clinic to just go ahead and that I’ll just call later. I insisted that she go cause the doctor wanted me to stay and rest at the clinic. Anyway, it’s just a block away from our office so I can manage. And it’s not like I’m dying… I just felt like my insides is being ripped apart.

The nurse took me to an adjoining room, I laid down on the bed while she prepares the syringes , waaaaah 2 injections!!! I pull the sleeves of my blouse up unto mid-arm so it would be easier for the dreaded injections. But lo and behold, she turned me around and had me pull down my pants! Sa lobot diay and injectionan! I thought she’s gonna put it in my arms, but she has ass fetish. Hahahha. Kidding. But at that time I don’t really care where she put that needle, in my neck if need be, just to relieve me of the pain.

And so I lay there, waiting and praying for the meds to take effect so I could have peace inside my tummy which seems to have experienced a nuke war. I couldn’t help but be a bit sad, thinking that it’s not easy to get sick and be away from home. It just reminds me how far I am from those I love. I suddenly miss home so much.

Fast forward, after a few hours rest, I went home with 4 different medicines from the doc. I was told it was a mild food poisoning. I’m thankful that it was just a “mild” case, and I’m back on my feet again and peace once again reign inside my tummy.

🙂

Question: Does it matter where you inject it? Will injecting it in my behind makes it more effective? hehehe serious ko 😀

  3. Hi D… it does matter..there are some medications that can’t be injected via arms.. your deltoids because it can only accumulate less meds.. deltoid muscle is smaller compared to your gluteus muscles.. if the agent that was injected was bit irritating, the best route is your glutz… bigger muscle mass, bigger accomodationg for the meds.. faster absorption…

i hope you’re okay now. food poisoning is a serious thing…
