Let me tell you a story.

A love story, in fact, of two people in love.

Like any other love story there is: boy meets girl, boy falls in love, girl feels the same, and they started a beautiful story with the two of them as lead characters.

And like any other love relationship, serious relationships that is, they wanted theirs to last till the last sunset of their life. They wanted to be each other’s best friend, ever confidant, and the other’s strong arm.

And in spite of them being young with the rest of their life waiting to be explored, they can’t imagine a life without the other. A life, a home, a family.

And as if heaven’s ears are open at that time or fate tested the couple, the girl got pregnant with a child. The boy was then about to graduate as an MT and opportunities abroad awaits him. The boy stood ground of his promise and didn’t leave the girl and their unborn child. He graduated but didn’t pursue his opportunity overseas, wanting more to be a doting father to their soon to be baby girl. He helped instead in a fishing business ran by his cousin. So far from what he had painstakingly studied in school. The girl was already working by then, a cashier in one of the city’s department store.

Both of them not born next to a silver spoon, the best that they have up unto that point was each other. They have nothing much to give except themselves. Which is a lot.

Our flight took off on the eve of Christmas day. I exchanged greetings and hugs and kisses with some friends who were with me on that flight.

A friend of mine joked that I’ll be spending Christmas on three countries: Singapore, Malaysia on air, and of course the Philippines. I told him I got only one thing in mind, I’m gonna be spending Christmas at home.
