Craving

I Crave Your Mouth, Your Voice, Your Hair

DON’T GO FAR OFF, NOT EVEN FOR A DAY
Don’t go far off, not even for a day, because –
because — I don’t know how to say it: a day is long
and I will be waiting for you, as in an empty station
when the trains are parked off somewhere else, asleep.

Don’t leave me, even for an hour, because
then the little drops of anguish will all run together,
the smoke that roams looking for a home will drift
into me, choking my lost heart.

Oh, may your silhouette never dissolve on the beach;
may your eyelids never flutter into the empty distance.
Don’t leave me for a second, my dearest,

because in that moment you’ll have gone so far
I’ll wander mazily over all the earth, asking,
Will you come back? Will you leave me here, dying?

Pablo Neruda

reading his works makes you hold your breath until you’ve reached the last line. :)

Just great.

Playing House

You have to do your own growing no matter how tall your grandfather was.”

– Abraham Lincoln

I am a late bloomer when it comes to living independently from home. Since my family is staying in the city back in the Philippines, it didn’t really occur to me to find a place of my own. Well.. hmmm… let me correct that… it did occur to me especially during the times when i have a misunderstanding with my sister, or during the times when i get scolded for coming home late. Those were the times when I envy my friends who are living independently from their families who are in the province. But my reasons for staying outweighs those that makes me want to separate. When I get sick, my papa will always be there to make me soup and check on my temperature and remind me to take my meds. When I feel like I want to make lambing (be affectionate), I can always go to my sister and cuddle. Eating together, and watching TV or playing boardgames. (Arrgh! this post is making me miss them even more :( ). And living with my family also makes it a little easier on the budget. I’d rather spend the money I’m gonna be paying for my rent, for groceries in our house or my sister’s tuition. I love staying at home with them. Yes, home. And if we really think of it, Family is where you come home to. :)

The indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want.”- Ben Stein

But hep hep hep… i didn’t write this post to be dramatic. LOL. Being away from home, Me and some friends are in a quest… to find our own place! And boy oh boy, it’s not easy. Sometimes it can get frustrating, it would test your patience up to the Nth level. You have to deal with agents. Yes, even houses have agents! (When I grow up I want to be an agent… bwahahahahaha). They occupy more than a few pages in the paper, they post online ads. They’re everywhere! Then you call them up, and they reply, then you tell them your budget.. then they say.. “Ah! so low!”. Or they tell you the pice and you’ll say, “Ah! So High!”. Nyahahaha.

For rent units don’t come cheap. It depends on the location and of course what comes with the house. Is it fully furnished? Semi-furnished? Is it a 3+1 unit? 2+1? 1+1?

Whew! I have to ask my friends who’ve been here before me about the set-up and how they go about things like these. 3+1 means, its a 3 bedroom unit, with dining/living room and kitchen, and 2 toilet and bath. 2+1 means, 2 bedrooms, with dining/living area and kitchen and 1 or 2 toilet/bath.

Last Saturday, we found our place. We signed a letter of intent and they(owner) have until this Thursday to change to their mind (which I hope will not happen). You initially dish out money for 1 month deposit , 1 month advance and agent’s fee which is usually half the rent. Starting out is burning my pocket and i can still feel the sensations from the burn. Huhuhu… there goes my moolah saved from my beloved PI. :) And I’m still on my 3rd week in my new job. Huhuhu have to wait for my first paycheck. Haaay mantra to self: Sa sugod ray lisud (It’s only the first step that’s the hardest)

I’ll be staying with 3 other friends: Edric, Lex and Kat. And the four of us are first timers to this kind of things. All of us used to live with our family back home, and here we are trying to play house. Good luck! Hahaha. Too bad though cause Shanta won’t be staying with us as initially planned. :(

I’d probably blog about any updates on this, just in case anybody wants to know what’s been going on with little didee. Bwahahaha… as if.

New things to learn. So nice lah! :)

To get through the hardest journey we need take only one step at a time, but we must keep on stepping” – chinese proverb

You’re Beautiful

Filed under: overheard from the grapevine — didee @ 10:32 pm

Ang sarap namang pakinggan galing sa isang taong akala mo eh sobrang seryoso, ang pambating bungad sa cellfone na.. “Kumusta ang ang aking magandang asawa?”

Masarap makarinig. Ok ka boss! :)

It is so nice to hear some words from a person, whom you perceived as too serious and strict, whose welcome greeting when his wife calls him is…”How is very beautiful wife?”

Words so nice to hear. You’re ok boss! :)

Mirror, Mirror on the wall…

Filed under: finds, home — didee @ 3:23 pm

…. what’s my sms for today?

I think it’s safe to assume that in this day and age, all of us have cell phones/mobile phones or something of the sort, where friends/ family/stalkers/etc.

can reach us wherever we may be.

I was browsing this style site and I though of sharing to you this quite an amazing find.

Think of Snow White’s wicked step-mother. “Mirror Mirror on the wall… ” then she says her spill of asking who’s the fairest amongst all. And we all know what happens next. The mirror spoke (it did right???) and told her … well the truth… that’s she’s a an ugly old hag.

So now imagine yourself, taking your precious time in front of the mirror. Examining every nook and cranny of your pretty face (yes, even guys do this). Telling yourself how lucky this world is to have such a wonderful creation. (read: *gag!!* kill me now!! LOL). So you have your narcistic moment in front of your own reflecting pool. Then suddenly a message would flash on the mirror : “Wake Up! Wake Up! You’re day dreaming again.”

Impossible? Not anymore. A French designer made the +336+ mirror which can receive sms from any mobile phone and display it! The messages appear as luminous text, running on the mirrors’ surface when one gets close to the mirror. Whoa!

Of course this baby comes with a price. And a steep one at that. A whooping $10,000 for this piece. Now who would pay for that ? :)

Skip Work, Have Sex!

Filed under: facts, reuters — didee @ 8:35 pm

No, I’m not skipping work to have sex, but apparently some people are encouraged to skip work, stay home and hump their hearts out. LOL.

According to Russia, Reuters, the governor of a central Russian province urged their couples to skip work on Wednesdays and make love instead. This is to help boost the low birth rate of the region.

Nice eh? LOL

But there’s more! (bwahahaha), If the woman give birth on exactly June 12, Russian’s National day, she will qualify for a prize… even a new home! if she’s not “lucky” enough to win the house, a television set or something for the home would be given to her. (Who wants to move to Russia now?! hahaha)

With a decline of just about 700,000 in population, the Russians are in dire need of “more people”. :)

Regional governor Sergei Morozov told employers to contribute to a Kremlin campaign to boost the birth rate by giving couples Wednesday off to have sex.

Russia wants to reverse a trend in which the population is shrinking by about 700,000 people a year as births fail to outpace a high death rate boosted by AIDS, alcoholism and suicide.

This is the third year Ulyanovsk region, famous as the birthplace of Soviet state founder Vladimir Lenin, has dedicated a day to encouraging couples to produce more babies.

Prizes will extend equally to unwed women who produce children on the right day, though the biggest prizes will go to married couples.

On Russia Day this year, a family won a jeep after their fourth baby was born on the holiday.

-Reuters

It may seem funny, but it’s true. A special baby making holiday :)

I have quite a few friends who are pregnant right now, or whose wife or girlfriend is on the way. Congratulations to all of you! :) All the best in your soon bundle of joy. :) (special shout out to : ate claire and aldiones). Sorry guys, all i could give you is my heartfelt congratulations, no special prize included.LOL.

I’m In!

Filed under: job, job hunt, philippines, singapore — didee @ 2:39 pm

I was reviewing for my second interview with Company R. I almost gave up hope cause they’re only open for hiring on 1 position in the IT department. My agent was really supportive, probably cause he’s got a quota to beat. LOL.

Around 10 AM, Company I called me and said that the client wants to meet me for interview that afternoon. To tell you the truth I am not that excited for this interview with company I. Well, not as excited compared to others i applied for. (Now why the heck did I apply in the first place?! Oh right, I applied for all positions fitting my qualifications. LOL) But then beggars can’t be choosers, so I have to be there, put on my best self and charm my way through all this technical hurdle :)

It is true that there are quiet a lot of open opportunities for IT in Singapore. But it doesn’t give you the liberty to be too picky cause it’s a multi-racial competition when you come to face the panel of interviewers It’s a big bowl of varied race, there’s the locals, Chinese, Thai, Indonesians, Malaysians, Indians, Filipino, Vietnamese and Westerners.

Company I and I agreed to meet up at 5. I think I can make it right after my 2nd interview for R.

I was a bit nervous with my second interview with Company R. But as soon as the conference started, I was off to selling myself as an adept, willing to learn and hardworking IT Professional. :) I liked the interview, it was technical but not entirely focusing on the details and protocols of any programming language. From programming concepts, Software quality assurance, Design… they ask them all. Good thing they speak in English though, though sometimes you have to ask them to repeat what they just said cause you can’t make out the words through the heavy accent.

I think I gave out pretty sensible answers. And good thing I didn’t blackout. In or not, I’m satisfied with how the interview went. Now I hope that they feel the same.

Right after my interview with Company R, I prepared myself for my interview with Company I. I was two stations away from where we are supposed to meet, when I got a call from my agent for Company R.

Agent : How did the interview go? (In very heavy Indian accent)

Me: I think it went well. I was able to answer the questions. I hope it’s enough.

Agent. : Oh!!!!!! What did you do?!

Me : Why? What’s the problem?! (now I’m starting to get confuse because of his tone)

Agent : (laughing hard) I was just kidding, They extended an offer you can come to the office now and look at the contract.

I thanked him and i just mouthed quite a lot of ‘Thank You’s” to my big daddy above… I’m in! But it was all Him. :)

And the best part of all is telling J and my family about it. They were worried about me, though they try not to show it whenever we talk/chatted. hearing J’s voice crack a bit was classic, he wanted me to save my overseas phone balance for important calls. And it was nice to call him bearing good news. My papa was in the jeep when I called and it’s also my first call for him since I got here. My sister was so happy, she said she can finally come visit me. LOL. hearing their voice is like balm. And I miss them a lot. :)

Company G

Filed under: Doodles, Blabs and Rants, job, job hunt — didee @ 2:27 pm

I got an interview for Company G tomorrow. What I like about Company G is that i got a few friends working there already. LOL. And of course from what I heard, I bet I’ll learn a lot if I can be a part of it.

I don’t think my first week of job hunting is bad. I’ve been to interviews and received a few calls. No job offer so far, but no pressure just yet.

I was browsing the net, trying to research about Company G, when I got a call from Company R. Remember it? My first interview here last tuesday. And I’ve been eying it even when I was still in cebu. They want to meet with me tomorrow for second interview (yipeeee!). It’s gonna be a panel interview with the big bosses. But since they’re in HK, it’s gonna be a telephone conference between me, the Singapore Project manager and the panel in HK.

The interview for Company R was scheduled at 2:30pm, and my interview with Company G was at 3:00 pm. No way i can do both!

My agent for Company R told me to come up with a lie and tell Company G that I can’t make it cause I have to go and update my Social Visit Pass. I told him I’ll see what I can do and to call me back after 30 minutes.

I don’t want to not show up on any of them. But I felt that I have to prioritize Company R cause it’s already my second interview. But on the other hand, i don’t want to start my attempt to join Company G with a lie. I can’t just tell them that I have t postpone my interview with them because I have an interview with another company. Or can I?

It was an amusing predicament really. Being in a position of a job hunter, you really wouldn’t want to pass up any opportunity. But I can’t think of any plausible excuse to give to Company G, even the lies formulated by my housemates are obviously… well, lies. :) Imagine, from transferring house, to not feeling well up to fetching a friend/family member from the airport.LOL.

And so i opted to tell the truth, called up Company G and told myself to just suck it up cause it’s much worst than not trying at all. When the secretary picked up, and I asked her to if I could reschedule my appointment, she said that she was just about to call me cause something came up and the manager couldn’t make it for my original schedule! So she updated my interview schedule on Wednesday!

Ahh! So nice lah! My one week and 1 day countdown.
